"Thorncliffe" Bed & Breakfast
is a small, family run B&B, whose guests are genuinely welcomed
as part of the family.
Pat & Jim, believe in making your stay as happy and as comfortable as possible
and are more than happy for guests to join them of an evening for a chat,
share a drink or simply relax in front of the telly.
For real home from home Cornish hospitality,
you have discovered a truly delightful gem.....

"We took a wrong turning that brought us here...the best mistake we ever made"
Keith & Marion, Australia

If the slow and rural pace of life is a change for you,
waking up at Thorncliffe will be special ....
With wonderful views of Pentewan Beach from the comfort of your own room,
the morning song of the numerous birds that visit daily,
and the gently sound of waves lapping the sand,
what more could you ask....
or, if you prefer not to miss a single moment of your holiday,
why not take an early morning stroll along the beach,
where you will be entertained by the Oystercatchers, Cormorants, or, maybe a
family of Dolpins as they pass along the coastline.

Historically, Thorncliffe, was owned by a Captain Hawkins, in the days when Pentewan was a busy and important harbour for local fishing boats and large cargo ships.
It is said, he would lead his crew through the house, down the steps and into the
secret, back way of the public house,
for out of hours drinking!
Although the steps still remain, today, our guests have to go the slightly longer way round,
all of 25 staggering steps......

Pentewan is a small coastal village just 3 miles south of St Austell, and 2 miles
from the popular resort of Mevagissey.
The village overlooks Pentewan Bay, with its long, sandy beach, perfectly safe for
swimming and all water activities.
The small old harbour, lies between the village square and beach
and is now home to families of resident ducks, swans and numerous sea birds.
The stunning coastal path, just minutes from Thorncliffe,
is easily accessible from either end of the beach and offers a delightful walk to Mevagissey one way,
or along the coast towards Charlestown, passing the popular beach of Porthpean the other......
The village has its own pub, restaurant, shops, garage and post office,
as well as a delightful tea-room in the village square.
For those guests who rely on public transport, or, would just prefer
to discover Cornwall by bus or train, Pentewan is well served by the local bus service,
with a regular service to the neighbouring village of Mevagissey,
The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell, Eden and Fowey.
If you are inclined to be more energetic, Pentewan has its own cycle hire shop,
situated on the No 3 cycle path.
